Black lava baroque under Etna
Sicily's second city, rebuilt in baroque after the 1693 earthquake using black lava stone from the volcano that destroyed it. Etna is an hour away and still erupting; the fish market at dawn is the loudest thing in Sicily.

Breakfast is granita with a brioche for dipping — almond in summer, always before 10am.
