The biggest castle ruin in central Europe
Four hectares of ruined fortress on a limestone hill, visible from far across the plain, UNESCO-listed since 1993. Below it sit Spišské Podhradie and the walled ecclesiastical town of Spišská Kapitula, both part of the same listing.

Signature local dishes worth seeking out.
Car or a bus to Spišské Podhradie, then a 20-minute walk uphill.
Go late afternoon — tour buses clear out and the light on the white walls is far better.
Very safe.
