Fortress town on the Danube, home of EXIT
Serbia's second city, calmer and prettier than Belgrade, built around the Petrovaradin fortress on the Danube. Every July the fortress becomes EXIT, one of Europe's biggest music festivals; the rest of the year it is a relaxed Austro-Hungarian town of cafés and squares.

The high-speed train from Belgrade takes 35 minutes and costs a few euros — easier than the bus.
